Wanda’s “How Not To Make Websites”

Again, I’m all over the place.

Wandering from one site to the next.

I learned about coComment, and I put their tag cloud in my sidebar; then, when I went over to Stu Nicholls’ CSSplay to remind myself about favicons (he has a page you can buy a space for your favicon to display it, and I remembered some pretty impressive favicons there I wanted to learn from), I clicked on WandaWanders’ icon (which is the most noticeable one on that page, and corroborates her innate sense of style which is apparent at her website), and became enamored by her web design and an article about how not to build a website.

Here, just several weeks in to learning about all these really neat things I’m thinking I want to use in my website design, I discover (and now agree with,) Wanda’s opinions about many of these elements.

You’ll want to read the article yourself to get an idea of what I mean; but it has a lot to do with “Web 2.0 magic,” and how much of it your website really needs.

The tag cloud is a no-no; in her opinion, as is flickr, and dates and times,… well here, have a screenshot of everything on a page she thinks is wrong - and have a look at it in the lightbox effect which she also says is wrong:

NOT so good
