Memory and Mayhem

Learn/Un-learn

Can we un-learn?

I’ve piddled around, trying this, learning that, and sometimes it feels like I un-learned things.

I’m trying to build a simple website for my friend, John Lucero. He’s a great artist; he lives here in Laguna Beach, and shows at the Sawdust Festival every year. I want a website that can be added to. Easily.

So I recognize the need for a database, thus a way to append to what is already there, and a way to automate the process so that if I were to not be around anymore, anyone could pick up the pieces and continue on with his online efforts by simply adding stuff. I downloaded a package from “apples” today, and I have ALWAYS had a hard time understanding directory structure. I can’t seem to understand how to set “virtual paths” to the directories needed to test locally the PHP programs so uploading them to the root directory on the server meshes correctly.

I define the sites in my “Documents and Settings” directory, but the Apache, and PHP, and MySQL installations are on the C: drive, and I can’t understand the “meshing” of these things.

For all the years I’ve spent learning my computer, I feel like a total idiot sometimes.
