Irons in the Fire

I got John Lucero’s domain name registered yesterday, and went to my webhost to add an account there for him, so the parking page is up and viewable here. You probably don’t have the 3D-glasses to view it in all its 3D glory, so I’m working on a way to send these out to interested parties for free, with an opt-in to his newsletter/blog.

Having sponsored my late friend’s guestbook has brought a cascade of emails from old friends, and so I’ve been arranging to see them all in June, at the Steeler Pride All Class Reunion. The thought of re-visiting the old stomping grounds brings up another bunch of ideas for my PowelltownUSA website. An area devoted to old Steeltown folklore and nostalgia. Patrick Brayer’s input will be invaluable, as he has been collecting tidbits all his life.

Pat’s a songwriter/musician with many credits to his name in the music industry. Rather than try to list them here, have a look at the website that he says “knows more about me than i care to remember”.

Here’s a photo he sent me:

Learning more about this blog, and learning from Thomas Pierce and Jim Edwards about other blogging issues, I went to BlogHarbor and opened up a free trial account for LooseArrow3D, and here, there’s more poking around, more learning curve, more work.

I really like BlogHarbor’s full-featured services. And there are many things I like about WordPress too. Many online marketers recommend Blogger still. My main concern for work I’m doing for John is that I can hack the CSS and other templates to be as simple and as clean as John is hoping for. But then, how do you have a website that offers a lot of interest to its readers, without cluttering up the home page with lots of links and so on?

I guess a simple, small navigation, pushed over to the left or right, or way up top, should be able to accomodate everything. Pulldown menus have always been a decent solution. Why don’t I PLAN these things before I jump right into them?
